Nationally listed buildings
Being ‘listed’ means a building is recognised to have special architectural, historical interest, or both.
Listed buildings are an important part of our local and national heritage and help us to link with our past and. They are deserving of special care and attention.
Newcastle-under-Lyme has a rich heritage that includes churches and ancient buildings. There are around 380 buildings on the list within the borough:

The Planning Data (England) Regulations 2026 expect us to publish a variety of local datasets in approved digital formats, including the Listed Building datasets.

The Listed Building dataset is also provided a link to a URL-endpoint for a GIS Feature Service (intended for use with GIS mapping systems) under the terms of the Open Government Licence.
