Once your application has been submitted, we'll confirm when your Direct Debit has been set up and the date your payments will be collected.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to set up a new Direct Debit every year when I receive a new Council Tax bill?
No. If you already pay by Direct Debit and your instalments are up to date, your Direct Debit will continue automatically each year. There's no need to set up a new instruction.
I've received a new Council Tax bill. Has my Direct Debit changed?
Your Direct Debit will remain in place unless we tell you otherwise or you make a change. Your new bill will show the instalments that will be collected for the coming year.
How do I know if I'm already paying by Direct Debit?
Your Council Tax bill will state the payment method being used. You can also check your account online if you're unsure.
Can I change my bank details?
Yes. If you need to change the bank account your Direct Debit is collected from, you can amend your Direct Debit online.
Can I change my payment date?
We offer a range of payment dates. If you'd like to change your collection date, please amend your Direct Debit online.
I've changed address. Do I need to set up a new Direct Debit?
If you've moved within the borough and have a new Council Tax account number, you may need to set up a new Direct Debit for your new account. Please check your bill or contact us if you're unsure.
What happens if a Direct Debit payment fails?
If a payment is unsuccessful, you should make your payment via one of our other ways to pay your Council Tax. You are responsible for ensuring your payments are made on time.

Yes. Direct Debits are covered by the Direct Debit Guarantee and provide a safe and secure way to make regular payments.
Can I cancel my Direct Debit?
