Jonathan Gullis, Leader of Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council and Cabinet member for Planning and Town Centres

Before becoming Leader of the Council, I served as the Member of Parliament for Stoke-on-Trent North from 2019 to 2024. During my time in Parliament, I focused on education, skills, levelling up, regeneration, community safety, and championing the interests of Stoke-on-Trent, Kidsgrove, Talke and the wider North Staffordshire area.

I also served in Government as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for School Standards at the Department for Education, drawing on my professional background as a teacher and school leader. Prior to entering Parliament, I worked in secondary education, including as a Head of Year, and was also a trade union representative, giving me first-hand experience of supporting young people, families and staff in frontline public services.

As Leader, I am committed to making Newcastle-under-Lyme a cleaner, safer and more ambitious borough. My priorities include strengthening town centres, supporting local businesses, protecting communities, and ensuring residents see value for money from their council."
