Bereavement Services are responsible for managing eight cemeteries across the borough - Attwood Street (Kidsgrove), Audley, Chesterton, Keele, Knutton, Madeley, Newcastle and Silverdale.
There are also 14 closed churchyards distributed over both the urban and rural parts of the borough. Bereavement Services also manage Newcastle Crematorium, which is located in Bradwell.
Bereavement Services are a member of the 'Charter for the Bereaved' scheme. This is a nationally-run service quality initiative by the Institute of Burial and Cremation Authorities.
Our key service objectives are:-
- To comply with the statutory and legislative requirements including health and safety monitoring, such as memorial stability and crematorium emissions
- To continue to establish and maintain links with groups and organisations associated with bereavement services, such as church authorities, North Staffordshire Maternity Hospital and neo-natal bereavement help groups
"Providing services which meet real local needs at the highest possible standards of care, choice and dignity to those who have suffered bereavement."
