Newcastle Bereavement Services COVID-19 Statement
In recognition of the current COVID-19 situation, and to help with infection control and reduce risk, Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council’s Bereavement Services will be restricting cremation and burial funeral services as of Monday 23 March 2020.
Cremation services and graveside burial services are now restricted to 10 people in the interest of keeping people safe and following guidance on social distancing. Mourners are also asked to stay in their cars or wait outside to avoid meeting in waiting rooms and to sit a respectful distance away from each other during the funeral service.
Memorial services can be held at a future date, and although we are currently unable to offer a streaming service, we are allowing services to be recorded or streamed by a Funeral Director or family member.
All non-essential services within the department are being respectfully postponed, such as cremated remains burials and memorial appointments, to protect against exposure and prioritise resources.
We understand that this is further distress at a time of suffering, and hope that you understand and follow the guidance to help us to make sure that we are doing our best to protect our staff and members of the public as well as continuing to provide a respectful service.
Please follow the official guidance and stay safe.
