What a fixed penalty notice can be issued for

Smoking and smoke free places

We enforce a variety of smoking related controls and can issue:

  • a fixed penalty notice for smoking in a smoke free designated vehicle or area. The penalty is £30 if paid within 15 days, or £50 if paid 16-29 days after the penalty was issued. Courts can issue a fine not exceeding £200
  • a fixed penalty notice in accordance with maximum fine restrictions for failing to display the appropriate smoke free signage as dictated by law. The penalty is £150 if paid within 15 days, or £200 if paid 16-29 days after the penalty was issued. Courts can issue a fine up to £1000

Courts may impose fines of up to £2500 where responsible parties fail to prevent smoking in a smoke free designated environment, including vehicles.
