Tell us about a change that affects your Council Tax
Discounts, exemption and reductions
If you receive a Council Tax discount, disregard, reduction or exemption, you must tell us as soon as possible if you are no longer entitled to it.
Examples include:
- A student leaves or completes their course.
- An apprentice is no longer employed as an apprentice.
- The person who qualified for a Severely Mentally Impaired (SMI) disregard is no longer living at the property.
- The person receiving a Disabled Band Reduction has passed away or no longer occupies the property.
- A care worker no longer lives at the property or changes role.
- The number of adults living in the property changes and you are receiving a Single Person Discount.
- A property that is exempt becomes occupied or its use changes.
- Someone moves into or out of the property and this may affect a discount, reduction or exemption.
- Probate has been granted for a property that is currently exempt because it forms part of a deceased person's estate.
