What happens to your recycling and household rubbish

We collect these mixed together with cans, tins and glass in the bigger side of our recycling freighter. They are sorted at a materials recovery facility (MRF).
The plastics are further sorted into the various plastic types, before being turned into flakes or pellets for reprocessing.
Almost anything made from plastic can be made from recycled plastic, even new containers for food and drink. Wheelie bins, garden furniture and even synthetic clothing like fleeces and t-shirts can also be made from recycled plastic.
Without recycling, more oil would need to be pumped from under the ground or sea and refined to make all these products.
