How to pay Council Tax

Direct debit

The easiest way to pay your Council Tax is by direct debit. You simply complete an instruction for your bank or building society to pay your Council Tax when it is requested each month.

You save time by not having to queue to make payment in person and also money if you would otherwise pay by sending a cheque through the post.

The Council is able to handle your payment more efficiently and you are safeguarded in the agreement which the Council has with the banks and building societies.

If a payment is made against your instructions for any reason, the Council must immediately reimburse your bank or building society.

If you wish to pay by direct debit and you have a current account with your bank or an appropriate building society account, please telephone 01782 715500, use the Citizen Access link or download and complete the Council Tax direct debit form and return it to:

Direct Debit mandate

Online

Payments are accepted by debit or credit card and you will be issued with a transaction number to confirm payment, which you should note for your own records.

Follow this link to go through to our online payment, and then select 'Council Tax' from the payment type options.

Bank credit transfer

Notify your bank of the amounts and dates of your payments and please allow five working days for payments to reach the Council's bank account.

 If you do not have access to online banking you can use this form, print it and take it to your bank or building society - do not send it to us

Telephone

Payment may be made by debit or credit card by telephoning 01782 717717 (Option 1) at any time. When payment is made by this method please make sure your card details are available. This automated system will issue a transaction number to confirm payment, which you should note for your own records.

Paypoint payment card

Payment may by made at post offices and other shops offering the PayPoint service. To obtain a PayPoint payment card, please contact us. There may be an initial delay in issuing a new or replacement card any instalments due during this time should be made using an alternative payment method.

Please note:-  Council Tax or any instalments will not be considered paid until we receive your payment.  Post-dated or third party cheques will not be accepted.

Any change in occupation or ownership of the property should be notified to the Executive Director (Resources and Support Services).
