Information for Candidates and Agents

A candidate and agent briefing took place on Monday 15 March at 6pm to help prepare prospective candidates who wish to stand as a county councillor at the forthcoming elections on 6 May 2021. Further briefings are being arranged. If you would like to attend, please contact Electoral Services on electreg@newcastle-staffs.gov.uk or call 01782 742249.  A video recording of the briefing session is available here.

The notice of election will be published on Monday 22 March 2021.


The process nominating candidates in the election will take place from Tuesday 23 March 2021 and will close at 4pm Thursday 8 April. There a number of documents that you need to complete to make a nomination, which are all contained in our Nomination Pack.

Information for Electors

Statutory cut-off dates for electoral registration, postal and proxy applications

Electoral Registration - last day to be included on the Register of Electors

Monday 19 April 2021 (midnight)

Postal Vote Application - last day to request a new postal vote application or to change or cancel an existing postal vote

5pm on Tuesday 20 April 2021

Proxy Vote Application - last day for new applications to vote by proxy

5pm on Tuesday 27 April 2021

Emergency Proxy Applications - last day for new proxy applications on the grounds of medical emergency or reason of employment

5pm on Thursday 6 May 2021


If you are not currently registered on the electoral register, applications can be made online at: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

If you are unable to get to your designated polling station on the day of the poll and would like to vote by post or appoint a proxy, please contact Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council on 01782 717717 or email electreg@newcastle-staffs.gov.uk .
