Recycling, household rubbish and garden waste subscription collection policies

Commercial waste

The law requires that anyone transporting waste for someone else must be a Licensed Waste Carrier, registered with the Environment Agency. It’s illegal to use the household waste collection services for commercial waste. Much of the regulation comes from Section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

If you create waste from a commercialactivity, you must have a waste transfer note to explain every load of waste removed from your premises, and keep the note for 2 years.

If the person removing your waste fly tips it, or does not dispose of it properly you will be held equally responsible in law.

The cost of collecting and disposing of your commercial waste is not included in your business rates.

The council offers a collection service for waste from commercial activities. We are very flexible, with a range of different container sizes and collection frequencies, including seasonal changes and extra collections at short notice. Our prices are competitive, we offer discounts for customers on direct debits, and we don’t charge VAT. If your needs change we can usually accommodate them. We will provide you with a waste transfer note which shows the legality of your disposal arrangements.
